Overbooking is not actually the problem here, it’s a deflection. The flight was full, yes, but then they decided the airline needed those seats they had sold to paying customers who were counting on flying on that flight.

If United wasn’t ALSO the worst fucking airline in the history of airlines (ohhhhh boy do I have stories), I’d almost feel bad for how much they’re being crucified for this.
jetblue doesn’t overbook flights (you select your seat when paying for your ticket) and their rates are often comparable to united/american/delta...
So what.
One little known law (which should be very widely known) that’s been getting more attention because of this is the fact that airlines must compensate you in cash (not vouchers), if you are bumped off a flight due to overbooking and that causes you to be delayed getting to your next destination. As the Department of…
I hope this results in legislation that prohibits overbooking. Airlines should just be permitted to sell out their seats. If someone misses their flight, the airline keeps the fare and doesn’t get to make 2x the money because of overbooking.
But they sold the seats. This is just greed.
And usually there are people on standby, so if people fail to show up there is a decent chance that the seat gets used.
If you don’t show up you are still charged for the ticket, though (at least, that’s what happened to me when I missed a flight). So airlines just want to make twice the money of one seat, and I can’t summon up a whole lot of sympathy for that.
A lack of planning on United’s part doesn’t constitute an emergency on mine.
That’s United’s problem, not the paying passengers.
I understand, but I just don’t care.
United’s response to this has just been awful. Amazing that they’re still just sending the “please contact law enforcement” bullshit deflection response to requests for comment. They are currently being crucified in the court of public opinion across the internet. Reddit’s ready to burn their corporate headquarters…
If only there were some way to keep airlines from selling more seats than are physically available in a plane.
So if I’m to understand this, this guy already paid for a ticket and was seated, but the airline wanted to give his seat to an employee??? How is this possibly the procedure???
The boners that these attacks gave McCain and Lindsey Graham will protect Trump for another three months.
No one is a perfect candidate. She was the most qualified candidate of the last 30 years. Couching statements about her in these terms just furthers the misogyny.
You think she would’ve done it without consulting Congress first? Or anyone?
This story leaves out the best part!
