run the numbers and they are talking _thousands_ of Gs of centrifugal load

a 300M radius system would put almost 4000Gs to get a projectile to mach 10 or 3430 m/sec (approximate MECO cutoff speed of a Falcon 9 first stage). that would be a centrifuge external diameter on the order of 650 meters, or 2200 feet in

pretty sure the original Toronado did this in the ‘60s...

There are no cars I regret buying.  there are several I have regretted selling.

the reason battlefield earth has a high rotten tomatos score is all the scientology sock puppets voting it up for their masters.

“air cooled VW”... posts picture of water cooled VW.

this is a car site, right?

at least they are toyos or hondas with both a better rep for lasting forever and retaining value.

fastest selling != largest volume of sales

looking at the top of the list you are seeing vehicles that there aren’t a ton of and are niche vehicles which people looking to buy one only want that car, so when it pops on the market it gets grabbed quick by someone who has been waiting for one to come available.

does anybody who is not a white supremacist use Woke anymore unless as an attempt at Irony?

why do we insist on pretending that a Hollywood Star means anything more than someone wrote a check to have it installed?

when they can survive 60,000 miles on boston roads and be replaced without having to replace the whole wheel, come talk to me.

nah, never mind.  I’m good.

I’m from a not rural area and I see it every fucking day.

white kid does something atrocious and walks with, at worst, community service, a sealed record and expungement on majority.

black, latino or cambodian kid does the exact same thing, if he isn’t shot while being arrested, he gets tried as an adult, max

republicans only want cops and AGs to be tough on crime when it is a POC or junkie. when it is a white kid with a bright future (tm)(c)(R)(pat pend) then we need to forgive these youthful indiscretions....

not getting your point?

I said it was not advanced relative to “american cars of the same era”.  i.e. it was no better than most and worse than some.  the mustang at least was unibody rather than body on frame, although the suspension was still leaf springs and solid axle.

10/10 would hoon, but not buy.

I love them, they are beautiful, and the last generation before BMW lost their way.  but this car has expensive repairs written all over it.

counterpoint: it really is not a good looking car, nor was it particularly advanced compared to other american cars of the same era. in its day it was “futuristic” looking but that doesn’t make it good looking.

technically it was a leaf spring, solid axle, body on frame station wagon chassis under an interesting body.

I mean, clearly Trump and his boys knew exactly what happened with the american citizen journalist murdered by at the saudi crown prince’s orders by his personal guard and not only didn’t make any effort to condemn him, they in fact rewarded him, while taking bribes from him.

of course you don’t _need_ AWD, but AWD is very helpful if you suck as a driver or live up in the hills (or both). somehow everyone before 1975 got by on RWD just fine and before ‘82 got by with FWD or RWD.  many of us still get by to this very day without AWD.  but my AWD car (Pilot) is much more capable in bad

never forget, intelligence is a bell curve with a high center and steep sides..

~50% of people are below average intelligence (exactly 50% below median for pedants), and half of those above the mean are still pretty stupid. you are not getting into the really smart people until you are about 3 standard deviations above

I don’t feel particularly positive about it (or any more positively than I feel about a Rav4 or CR-V), nor am I as bitter and unendingly negative about it as so many here seem to be.

it is a useful appliance that is competitive with adjacent brand appliances.
