As I have owned four diesels, I can say they’re joyless too. I don’t want to adjust my norms and expectations, why should I? I accept that most driving is a necessity and isn’t fun, but why shouldn’t I be able to enjoy it now and then without being told that if I try really hard, I might find out CVTs aren’t that bad.

Only if you want to find driving completely joyless.

    1) Lean NOx traps (as used on the 1st generation of cheating diesels) require a rich cycle to regenerate, this releases lots of hydrocarbons, CO2 and NOx. The regeneration cycle will be designed so it doesn’t occur during testing, however regular use will require a regeneration which means it won’t be able to meet

Mixed messages. Can’t see how Honda would want to show how good their hybrid supercar is by stripping it all out for a race version.

Completely disagree that Audi sell less diesels than Volkswagen. Audi is likely the highest seller of diesels in all of the Volkswagen brand

Correction: 1/3 of last year’s winner was an F1 driver.

There are lots of reasons for the double booking. While you see it as a preference of F1 over WEC, others will see it as a way of allowing both sports to save face. I don’t think WEC has been put in a worse position by that decision.

FIA doesn’t care which series people are watching as long as they’re watching it. There have been recent deaths in WEC. This is much worse press than people not watching it because it’s too slow.

Fuel consumption is dropping in every car, not just the ones that won. This is because lap times are increasing to an unsafe level

Meanwhile, Takata ready their airbag solution

To put these ‘just in case’ tweaks in context. The Volkswagen issues have highlighted problems with driving cycle tests, particularly the NEDC cycle used in Europe, it has forced a more rapid introduction of a driving cycle more representative of driving today, the WLTC - in contrast, the NEDC assumed people

At no point did I explicitly or implicitly say I condone any of his ‘extra curricular’ activities. I said they don’t need to make it to a website dedicated to car news and stories.

That makes no difference at all. There are many aspects of Jalopnik employees lives that don’t make it to the website.

Clarkson isn’t a form of transport.

What makes you any more qualified to oppose his view than he is to have one?

As someone British, he’s absolutely not from the UK. UK still uses miles and requires a mph speedo and mile odometer.

Actually, Volkswagen only exist now because American service men resurrected the factory. Who had more influence over current Volkswagen? The Nazis who left an empty factory without workers to carry on any legacy ideals, or Americans who hired employees and restarted the factory.

I believe they are using catalytic converter in a very broad sense here. I suspect they will actually be changing the Lean NOx Trap (often abbreviated to LNT). this captures NOx and once saturated, the engine runs rich to regenerate. My suspicion is that VW have fitted an undersized LNT for emissions testing, but it

Cute that you think the climate in Europe is any kinder to cars than in North America.
