I’m surprised that I have to even type this out, but here goes: Used oil is very carcinogenic. It contains heavy metals and aromatics including benzine and benzine derivatives from the fuel. Additionally, many commonly used oil additives are hazardous. Covering used oil all over your clothes is not a good thing to do.

Global fuel economy standards are very difficult to define because the driving cycles and conditions vary massively from country to country. To use an example, India use the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), however they cut the high speed parts of the cycle off the test because they don’t have the roads where people

Not sure a skoda citigo has the same appeal as a range rover...

I’ve been stating this a few times now and I feel the need to again. NOx levels may well be independent from fuel economy.

Diesels used to be reliable, when all they had were cam driven fuel pumps and glow plugs. As long as there was fuel at one end and electricity at the other, they ran.

Writing this from the UK i’ll say this; careful what you wish for. Diesels make for complicated cars with awful driving characteristics. They’re best for sitting on a highway wishing you would get to your destination. They are no desirable cars.

Why is everyone linking emissions to fuel economy?

Well the reason that power and emissions are different tests are because they’re very different driving cycles. The way you deliver maximum power from your car is not the way you drive it day to day. Therefore if they were coming out of just one test, you would have tiny power measurements.

I would argue that the SCR equip’ed VWs are in a much better place than the lean NOx ones. Relying just on the lean NOx trap will require more fuel post injections which will heat up the lean NOx trap, damaging the subtrate and resulting in expensive replacement of that, and potentially anything else in the exhaust

And what PPE would you wear to protect yourself against 60,000 ibs falling on you?

While at Williams, I strongly suggest you take chain hill road from Wantage to Newbury. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cha… It’s a great road for cars like that and worth the detour. I also happen to live at the bottom of it if you’d like a cuppa.
