I was at Pitt Race and he was lapping other peoples cars, and pretty much universally shattering peoples own lap records in their own cars. Even got one guy to throw up in his helmet (ouch).

He can’t. That’s the point of the franchise tag. He has no choice but to play his next NFL season with the Steelers. It’s up to him if that’s this year, or another year in the future.

Basically, he can be a Steeler for another year or retire.

There is a rule that prevents him from doing so. If he sits out a certain number of games, he doesn’t get credit for the year, and the Steelers would still be due another year from him.

He isn’t sitting out.  He wants his money obviously.  If he sits out.  No $14.5 million.

unfortunately if he just doesnt report, they retain his rights for 2019 and can franchise him again at the same price

If Bell thinks he is worth more than what the Steelers are willing to pay then good for him. He should sit out all season. Stay fresh and healthy and sign a mega deal with a team next year.(Assuming there isn’t some rule that prevents him from doing so.)
