We drive ‘em till they die at my house. 200,000, and keep on the maintenance.
My parents and in-laws think a modern car is still about to crap out at 100,000 (like they used to.)
When my beloved FIL said he was going to buy a new $28,000 car because his current car was approaching 100,000 and needed brakes, tires and…
$24,700.
Gulp.
Yeah, or your doctor might have told you to stand and stretch whenever you can because of DVT.
Most people? No.
Some people? Yes.
Especially if I’m on the aisle.
Otherwise, yeah, I chill.
Jumper cables.
Flashlights.
Bare minimum of tools.
Rope, paracord.
Bungee cords
Gorilla tape.
Tactical blanket (waterproof/windproof on one side)
Candle, matches, lighter in small Mason jar.
Knife.
Tire inflator.
Reflective vest
Big sheet of plastic.
Flattened beer box/cardboard.
Water (above freezing)
Energy bars.
Umbrella.
Tire…
We just took a trip on Amtrak. So did our friends. Two different destinations. Same starting point.
Our train was delayed on the first leg when a vagrant crossed the tracks, and the train had to stop fast.
On the second leg, freights and track maintenance delayed us. Still, we got to our destination only about one hour…
Speedway in Michigan does tend to be the best fast, hot, fresh coffee.
Until America is truly energy independent, with multiple energy sources like nuke, wind, solar, coal, gas and fracking, and tells these useless sheiks to literally pound sand?
Get the best helmet you can afford.
Get eye protection.
Get a mirror.
Wear reflectives.
Get lights.
Have term or universal life.
Act like everyone is trying to kill you.
You’ll be fine.
Probably.
(Lifetime road bicyclist here.)
What got my attention about my bad Amazon habit was making a conscious decision not to buy ANYTHING not ABSOLUTELY necessary for 30 days.
That really opened my eyes to “leakage.”
Others have made similar points below:
When you are going to keep something, buy the best.
Then use it till you wear it out.
Everything else will…
Good thoughts.
What you think you can afford, and what you can actually afford, are usually two different things.
With a solid emergency fund, you can afford a lot more than the minimum.
And once you’re used to that, the habit rolls on.
Then add more percentage points from each raise you get.
You’ll be to maximum very soon.
When did words stop meaning things?
Reserved seat.
Unlimited data.
The only words that have meaning anymore are “non-refundable.”
GRrrrr...
And they fed him, too.
:)
If you never travel past your favorite bar, yes.
If you like to cross state lines on your ride, no.
All good ideas and strategies, but you missed an important point:
Vesting.
Some plans have a trap built in, with a five-year vesting plan, or a laddered vesting plan.
If you are leaving in less than five years, you might have to leave money on the table.
That should be part of your calculations.
The best companies have NO…
My favorite response when I asked a waitress that question in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula:
“It’s all good product.”
Product.
That’s what she called it.
Restaurants serve so much food, my wife and I nearly always split a meal, or split two meals for a lunch the next day.
We used to be polite when we didn’t like something, and just say “It was fine.”
Now, we remain polite — but if we didn’t like it, or it was cold, we say so, and why.
That polite approach often results in…
Played the game, got tired of the players.
Now just have unlimited data on the phones, plug them into the TV, stream Amazon Prime, other network channels.
Old-school antenna picks up like 12 stations.
Savings:
Hours and hours of mindless channel-surfing, and $150 a month.
Wife complains sometimes — until I ask her to pay…
Yeah, went on to book to ABQ, it shows the discount, then removes it.
I think it is outside the date parameters.
Why does Amtrak have so many goofy promotions?
Just give us a good price to start with.
Totally agree.
