They were a small indie dev until this year when Blizzard acquired them, they likely didn’t feel the need to unionize. The quote in the article basically says some felt their company culture was under threat due to the acquisition.
This is by far the smartest way of doing it. It makes the collector’s editions platform agnostic. This eliminates instances where you want the collector’s edition but the only one they have in stock is for a platform you don’t own.
