I think it must have started off as a joke because it’s such an excellent sendup of rock and rap clichés, but it was the kind of joke and they were the kind of people that you didn’t really have to sit down and confront what it really meant that you were comfortable making this kind of joke in the first place.

The nordic countries (possibly bar Denmark?) have historically had major problems from alcoholism, and either flirted or enacted prohibition at some point - Norway, Sweden, and Finland still have state-run monopolies on retail sales of strong alcohol.

Did the show run out of ideas because all the good writers left, or did the writers leave because they felt they had run out of good ideas?

This is Avatar we’re talking about, though, right? 90% of the film is going to be computer generated, and most of the live action scenes are going to be mid-tier actors playing villains and a bunch of extras as mooks, so it’s the quickest, easiest, and cheapest part of the film.
