WTF?!!!!! That was ALL that scouts said about Manziel when he came out of college. NFL.com: “Undisciplined — plays his own offense and presses to make plays.” WalterFootball.com: Weaknesses - “Makes some dumb throws (it actually says that!!); Can play too reckless.” That’s why he was a former Heisman winner who was

This was a guy with a lot of up-side. Great arm strength. Threw one of the best deep balls I have seen at the college level. He was “Mr. Irrelevant” due to a knee injury late his senior year and questions about character. Even with the character questions, he would have been an early round pick coming out of college

Deleting this. Saw another story that said that he lied to another girl about his age.  Honestly, the dude looks older than 37 in his pictures. Not sure how he pulled that off.

Unless Jenkins is imposing capitalism and globalism upon developing African countries, I would assume Reid is using a word that he does not know how to use in an attempt to call him a sellout.

Except that it isn’t and has nothing to do with being an Uncle Tom or sellout.

Pretty sure Cuban doesn’t identify.  Think he’s said he would be Republican if not for their social policies.

Actually, the two you mentioned did not make donations in the 2015-16 year (which is what I found). Definitely leans heavily toward Republicans.

Well...they aren’t wrong. This isn’t necessarily an either-or debate. Eli is pretty bad, AND the team around him is a hot pile of garbage. No team is going to be successful with that offensive line. And let’s go beyond the line. What is there? He’s got a tremendous receiver whose psychological health is in question

First, thanks for an informed, reasonable discussion on Deadspin despite some disagreements.

Not so much the rudeness but the lack of creativity in the rudeness.  If you’re going to be a dick, at least be clever or funny. That’s quality shit talk.  “You’re short,” is some grade school bullshit.

Well, when a population is almost annihilated, it’s pretty fucking hard to make them your slaves. There’s also not a great of a use for slavery in Australia as the U.S.  Slavery was about economics as much as race.

I’m holding my judgment on this situation. But I agree on her fans. If this was Sharapova, for example, this article would be completely different.

Well, Serena seemed to think the accusation was a big enough deal to deny it and equate it to being accused of cheating. I don’t know. I’m waiting for more info to come out on this before I judge her or the umpire. Did the umpire warn her before? Were players told that coaching is something the WTA wanted to crack

Right. Especially at smaller schools where season ticket packages are cheaper, a lot of alums view buying season tickets as a way to financially support the school/program. So, they will buy ticket packages without intending to go to all or even any of them.

No, they are not. It is simply a well-known fact that reported attendance is the paid attendance, not actual butts-in-seats. I’ve worked in multiple athletic departments. Hell, I knew that as a fan even before.

I was wondering if it was sophistry or a lack of basic knowledge about the topic. I would think that a sports writer would know something that is pretty common knowledge....yet her consistent use of the odd term “scanned attendance” rather than “acutal attendance” and the fact that she needed to quote “acutal or paid”

Right. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, though. What matters more to the NCAA and the program (or the NFL/team) is how many tickets were sold. Actual attendance is nice, too, and interesting to know. But it doesn’t affect the bottom line.

Huh? Did I miss something in this article? They aren’t (or at least not based on anything you reported) “juicing” their attendance numbers. They are reporting paid attendance. The official attendance announced at every sporting event—NCAA or professional—is the paid attendance, not the actual attendance. Always has

I wondered how far I would have to scroll before the inevitable, “This doesn’t happen in rugby” comment. Yeah, it does. Rugby has a huge concussion issue and has spinal injuries just like football. It just hasn’t received as much exposure because, well, it’s rugby and doesn’t receive as much exposure as football.

The banners are for sell outs for a season, not just one game.....which, granted, is an odd banner but I don’t believe that many teams do that.
