I've found that so-called "insulated curtains" often don't deserve the name. A cheap fleece blanket or two will probably do a better job.

@noroom: Parse the sentence carefully:
As mentioned, this is still no replacement for WinDirStat.
It never bothered me that search engines track the result I select. I'm far more disturbed by their desire to keep a coherent history of everything I've ever searched for over a period of a year or more using some combination of unique cookies, hostname/ip, and optional log-in.
@jethcalark: I'd second the vote for some separation on these. This last was more like Lifehacker readers giving a nod to Ubuntu than a real contest, although the number of Linux users and fans on here is surprising.
VOTE: Update Manager (apt based update tool in Ubuntu)
@PickledEgg: If a plane hits your apartment, you're kinda screwed anyway.
On switching power schemes: This is totally unnecessary. Windows already keeps separate settings for plugged in versus on battery — just set it up in Control Pannel.
Can I be very, very disappointed not to see this in there?
Palm had a nifty hack going on, faking the deviceid. But selling that to customers as a finished solution and then crying foul when it broke, that's pretty unprofessional.
The article is generally good, but the availability of low self-discharge NiMH cells make rechargeable batteries useful for more tasks than they used to be.
@ADiSH: With all due respect, Adam's example is bullshit. His password short and weak.
@getjustin: I have never heard of a brick resulting from installing HBC/BootMii. BootMii, if installed as Boot2, is the best defense against other homebrew bricking your Wii that you can get because you can backup/restore the entire contents of the NAND flash.
@ichiban1081: Have you considered rechargeable batteries? I've had good success with more recent "pre-charged" ones, which don't lose nearly as much charge over time. Low self-discharge NiMH is miles away from the awful NiCD stuff of the 90s, and it works well enough that I only need to buy 9v batteries for the smoke…
@Yab: The guide doesn't say it, but you need to restart X after you restart hald or just reboot for this to take effect.
@UrsulaAsterius: This guide will work for any distro that ships with xf86-input-synaptics 0.15.0 or newer (released circa Aug 2008) and uses hald (nearly all of them). See [lists.freedesktop.org]
EmulateTwoFingerMinZ does just what you'd guess: emulates two finger gestures for touchpads that don't support it based on the reported "pressure." All touchpads report a "pressure" based on how much area is contacted. Put two fingers down, and the pressure goes up significantly higher. Plop down your palm and the…
Or you could just place the fresh herbs in the freezer, which does a pretty good job of preserving them in like-fresh state.
