You are wrong and you should feel bad.
Coilovers don’t belong on street cars
I feel doing snonuts in a new car is a critical part of learning to control it in critical and dangerous situations.
To be honest, I’ve never come across a smug Porsche owner. Might just be a skewed sample size, but the only 911s I’ve driven were offered to me by eager owners who love their cars and want to share them with others.
I bought an old X-Type as my beater mainly because of AWD (and 5M. This is irrational. I know it is irrational. The old hotrodder in me says what if i want to slap a turbo on the little thing? We do get bad weather sometimes in North Texas, but certainly not enough to warrant AWD. I honestly can’t see the utility in…
Long story short. No, you don’t Need AWD. you pretty much only need it if you live in a place where it regularly snows more than your ground clearance - or if you go offroading.
My 2 kids in the back seat of the Outback here say it’s worth every penny.
This is a poorly made argument most of the time - usually with Tirerack as a sponsor... First of all, tires matter. You need to have ones that are appropriate to the climate you live in. Duh. No arguments there. Second - RWD is ok if you don’t need to start on a hill in really snow weather. If you often do, you’re…
AWD is worth the extra cost. Not necessarily because of snow driving, but in an SUV with a big torquey V6, sending that power through all-seasons or winter-tires means you chew up the inside tire very quickly or even spin at a red light in the rain if you want to get moving quickly.
If Caddy’s plans come to fruition their fleet would be much stronger.
I live in the snowy, hilly suburbs north of NYC. I’ve done RWD with Blizzaks and studded Nokians and AWD with all seasons in blizzards. My drive involves a number of hill starts. My AWD cars on all seasons handle those with no drama on snow, whereas my RWD cars on snow tire have struggled and/or held up traffic while…
Remember that AWD carries a weight and mileage penalty as well, so if you’ll be hauling around all the hardware for it and never taking advantage of it, that will eat into any bonus on the resale side.
You know, it’s odd, but my mind went to De Tomaso as well. But I was thinking of something designed to eat Cobras.
What highways are you driving on that you don’t get stuck behind a slow-driving vehicle for a few annoying minutes at a time? Or, for that matter, where you actually drive at 70 mph instead of 75-80?
Maybe but there is something a little jalop about having to stop and chain up, like lock the diffs, switching transfer case to 4L or pressing sport mode. The automotive equivalent of too close for missiles, switching to guns.

What about an Impreza???
As a long time Coloradan, I say it might be time to give in and do what everyone else in Colorado does: Subaru (specifically Impreza).
