I don't know - this is all such a muddle. It's hard to dissect one piece of this without getting hung-up on another issue with the current state television industry. Everything is in such a state of flux that there's no way to comfortably arrive at what's working and what isn't.
Just today, one of my DVRs crashed

Boo. I like that my Prime membership lets me stream some extra stuff for free, but I don't care at all for their method of "purchasing" digital content compared to say iTunes. But maybe that's a separate topic.

Yes, you're bloody brilliant. That's why you questioned whether The Following killed a real dog in the pilot.

Don't feed the trolls!

I adore Film Crit Hulk - proof you can make a gimmick persona work, but only if you've got the brains to put out something worth reading.

I had planned to go back and re-watch some of the episodes I'm fuzzy on, but it looks like Netflix is down for the count at the moment…

Two Fred Willard appearances this week! Appreciating that these were filmed months ago (esp Community) does this mean we can finally let the man out of Celebrity Scandal Purgatory?! Because he's been sorely missed…

The Job was great. I remember watching it with my parents and it was like coming full circle to watching Barney Miller as a kid.

I'm tired, so someone please explain as I thought this was already known -

It really pains me that panel shows and similar faux-game show formats can't get a foothold on US television. I just love having an assembly of comedic minds given an excuse to just riff.

"Fleetwood Mac Sex Pants" is the name of my _____ cover band.

I loathe toilet humour, but every one of Ron's lines had me wailing with laughter. Sure I can write it off to being a bit punchy and also sad about Community, but Offerman is so great he can turn anything into gold.

Bonus points for this episode due to Fox's mere appearance in it.

Especially since they made a point of setting Avery up as someone who had a non-traditional country sound. That's a real thing that artists struggle with - that could have been an interesting story!

Americans can only digest an 80's setting through bad hair and a pop soundtrack.

But there's a difference between mentioning something and feeling the need to triple underscore it.

But would he come with his Reagan-era material?

Aliens in America, sniffle. Too soon, VanDerWerff, too soon!

Acknowledging that there was no way to come into this with a clear mind given everything that's happened in the past year, I agree the episode was good but not great. I don't think the show has tanked, but I'm concerned.

Anything to get Willard out of celebrity scandal purgatory…
