Wow - really enjoyed this review! And spot on with the DeGrassi comparison.

On one hand, I am willing to except characters fluctuating when it comes to self-identity, particularly around gender and sexuality, especially as an adolescent. So I could buy Unique first starting out performing in drag, then realizing a comfortability living in women's close and perhaps identifying as female…

I didn't hate Finn for what he said because he had the decency to immediately recognize what he has said and apologize (not that an apology makes that sort of thing go away). It was consistent with Finn being the type of character who isn't hateful but ignorant to situations unlike his own.

I liked that the show upped it's game, but then I remembered we have fall finales now, not just breaks for the holidays, so clearly they're motivated to have something big in order to tease us into coming back in January (or some Tuesday morning in March - you never know with NBC's scheduling these days).

That would have indeed been fabulous - and given Q just the neurotic edge that's been missing…

As a fan of many Vertigo titles I'm accustomed to (if still a little wounded from) titles coming to a close, but this is the end of an era. Damn…

Actually I'll back you on this one -

I'm not necessarily in disagreement with you, but based on the
"mini-commentaries" they offer up each season it seems to me that they
are still all about slaughtering sacred cows, but coming at it from an angle
no one else has approached yet. Sometimes they have a clear position
they want to take, but most of the time
