I read the news today about NIN cancelling the rest of their shows for 2021, and the first thought/signal that crossed my brain was the churning guitar of the Quake theme. C’mon, you know what I’m talking about, it’s playing in your head right now. And if you don’t know it, look it up. Summed up the feeling nicely.

Don’t forget Excitebike for NES & Famicom and it’s built-in track editor, which was only partially usable in western countries since it relied on tape drive device was never released.. imagine my frustration as a kid trying to save a track would just lock up the system.

totally unrelated, just saw this on FB and had

Wonderful interview — thank you, Alexandra! I had the fortunate chance to say hello to Manami back at Bit Summit in Kyoto in 2019. I recognized her on the street and went over to say hello and thanks for all the wonderful tunes, and we had a nice, polite conversation before parting ways for lunch. Good times! So great

:) two essential albums for sure. I also recommend Preemptive Strike from that era.

The why is the big one here, someone commented in the previous article it’s the money (cue DJ Shadow sample). But I’d love to hear what other politics at play as well, and hopefully in time that will come out.

I’m hopeful that most of these vets who still have a few more games in their proverbial tanks will realign in

one factor is slow roll out of vaccinations in Japan, since these all have to be imported and this will take significantly longer to get enough folks vaccinated. it’s really too early to tell where Japan will be in September, and they made the safe bet here. fingers crossed for TGS 2022 (and similarly, BitSummit 10 in

Looking forward to playing/adding Dragon Quest: The Adventure Of Dai: Infinity Strash to the list for 2021. As I recently learned from the 8-4 Play podcast, Strash is a particular term to the original The Adventure of Dai series in Japan (Dai no daibouken) and the infinity part is the call back to it... but without

I know you’re saving this one for a rainy day, but its raining here in Brooklyn today, so let’s all just take a Leap of Faith! Simon Viklund knocked it out of the park on the Rearmed reimagining.

Shout out to John and the rest of the crew from the 8-4 Play podcast! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about Japan, and games, and Japanese Games.

... E3 Hype train!

Hot take: Resident Evil 9 will have a word that contains “ix” in it. (Helix, perhaps, as in double-helix structures for DNA?)

Good call! I think it’d be a great fit for a 60 second montage from part 2 of the remake. At the very least, easy enough to get a fan version..

Just saw your reply, thank you for sharing! I’m glad to hear they have a remote option. I figured there was some kind of way to do it, but wasn’t sure how you would connect. That all makes sense then - a VPN connection from home to access your work computer, and from there connect to the dev kit. I take it the latency

I’d be curious to know more, but I feel like a “home office” is less of a thing in Japan, overall. I’m sure Brian has his own due to the nature of work, but for example at my wife’s parent’s place everyone just uses their laptops. Large desks with external monitors are seemingly rare. Not to mention likely having to

It’s also GDC week, and despite itself GDC being cancelled this was probably originally timed around GDC.

actually, the Oracle games (and Minish Cap too) were joint partnerships with Flagship / Capcom.. and seeing how they’re doing right now with other REmakes, well... I wouldn’t rule it out.

hmm, this is showing up as not found.

Best of luck to you and your new endeavors, Cecilia! Will miss your voice on the site.
