The animations when James is swinging look kind of stiff,

I would say its a much slower RE4 with a lot more focus on weight of weapons just looking at the trailer. James is certainly not moving and swinging like a trained Leon. Hes swing that heavy pipe for dear life and it shows.

Can you really not see the immense weight added to the combat just at a glance? There is a lot more to see in the trailer too, don’t hurt yourself trying to figure it all out.

Bruh. The standard remake has been out for over a decade. Download '7th Heaven modder" spend 15 minutes in the settings....and boom. 

It's a straight up sequel. It's very very different. But written in such a genius way....that a newcomer could play this game and still get the main story bits of the OG. 

In short, yes you are missing something.

Not really, the entire game you are subtlety being told whats about to go down. It less “goes off rails” and more “spells it out for the cheap seats”
