Maybe not the best episode of The Flop House this year (there were just so many good ones), but Episode 158 (Labor Day) had the "Tales of Alan Ruck" tangent, which might be the hardest I've ever laughed at a podcast.

We're fighting a losing battle on that front.

Fair enough. That also speaks to my issues with Boyhood. For me, a film emulating "reality" (again, I think We Are the Best! has a very sterile idea of what that means) doesn't automatically translate to compelling.

I'm not someone who thinks a movie "needs" conflict to be enjoyable, but We Are the Best! could have seriously benefited from just the smallest amount of friction. Every single review highlights how "adorable" and "exuberant" the film is, and that's part of the problem; it just feels like a loose collection

Mozart and Salieri are dropped, naked, in a forbidding jungle, with nothing but their wits and a pair of knives.

I thought We Are the Best! was so overrated, and surprisingly lifeless for such a cheerful-seeming movie. As much as I can't stand Richard Brody, he captured my feelings very well in his review:

Both deal with eating disorders, too.

That's how she collects nutrients

The Guest

This is indeed a disturbing universe.

WOW my head just exploded. How did I not know this?

Thank you

Go forth, junior detectives!

He was just so distracting. The whole time he was on screen, I couldn't stop thinking, "Why the fuck is Foreman here?"

I refuse to participate in this Fly By Night contest.
