I think of Brendan Gleeson as the Irish Philip Seymour Hoffman. He excels in these idiosyncratic bit roles, but when he's given the chance to carry films (In Bruges, The Guard, etc), he always knocks it out of the park.

Despite its many, many flaws (cough Cameron Diaz cough) it's still one of my favorite movies.
