This is Cuyahoga County, the grey area is basically all suburbs that serve the city. When talking to someone from the Cleveland area you may say. Oh, I’m from Parma, or West Lake, but to outsiders you would always say Cleveland.

Cleveland is more a victim of urban sprawl than anything. in the middle of the 1900's it was mostly redevelopment that removed housing and led to people moving to the suburbs. While there isn’t growth the loss of population isn’t nearly as staggering in the metro area than Cleveland proper

I’ve definitely been in this situation, however if this is a common occurrence and others don’t seem to have an issue...I would have myself checked for hearing loss. My father complained for 20 years about this, we finally got him to get a hearing aid and he doesn’t anymore.
