Yes! The Mashable article refers to sexual assault as a “messy sexual scandal.” Way to downplay the actual crime on your way to crucifying everyone else, BUT the person who committed the rape. It’s like they’re saying he’s the victim.

You never hear that sentiment when someone commits other crimes, like “well he stole a car and hit a kid and a puppy but what of his bright future?!”. Why is it just rape? So sad.
This! Apologies and trying to not be shitbags to women is going to spell the doom of American sports? What the hell does that say about American sports? Good God. The cluelessness. The sadness.
lol god you are pissy. Don’t pull this #notallwhitemen shit. I’m a white guy and I know firsthand that we get a lot of privileges and get a lot of passes just for being white men. I agree that his upbringing has a lot to do with this and you know what? Being a white man in America is part of that upbringing.
People are already saying that her behavior is not rape victim-y enough. Because obviously, they are the experts on a victims behavior and not the actual experts, who repeatedly point out that a very common reaction to rape is denial and minimizing the experience. But yeah, let’s assume the victim is lying because of…
How about he threw it away by being a scumbag rapist.
This is such a male narrative too. Never have I seen an instance where a woman was kicked off a team and the media then bemoaned how her future was taken away.
I got enough of those types of comments when the articles on this were shared on Gawker. Just because I was suspicious about the fact that literally no one denied anything and that people protesting the team for supporting a rapist is not just campus gossip, it is something to take seriously. But I ruined this poor…
Read the comments on yesterday’s post about this guy if you want a real rage attack. It’s beyond shocking.
Yeah but as a white man he had the expectation that he could get away with anything. How could he have foreseen actually being punished? It is such a shame that boys will be punished just for being boys! /s
I just seriously can’t deal with this shit anymore. I have been lucky enough not to experience sexual assault on campus, but I have many friends and friends of friends who have and campus police just doesn’t fucking care. They either never find the guy or there is not enough evidence to investigate anymore than an…
Let’s face it.
My other fav thing about college sports is that the actual super talented women who are athletes for big colleges get told that their games / matches aren’t good enough to watch because women are too weak.
Exactly! And that is why someone like Trump can rise to power.
I’m tired of the narrative that “he had a bright future until it was taken away” about rape and sports. It makes it sound like a horrible thing was done to him when it’s him who has done it to someone else.
Baylor’s going to beat them in the first round anyway, so he’s not even needed
I just hope the victim is getting all the help and support they can during this time. It would be hard enough to live through this without the publicity; I can only imagine how difficult it would be to have your sexual assault as the NCAA tournament’s hot-take piece.
Katie Nolan had Jessica Luther on her podcast a couple of days ago and they talked extensively about the way sexual assault in sports is framed in the media/public discourse. Touches on this topic quite a bit.
It’s weird that in the US sports are the most important part of school culture. In the rest of the world they have teams and clubs that are separate from schools.
Might I just add that “thor shirtless” and “chris hemsworth surfing” are both EXCELLENT google image searches
