So, not even trying to make a shipping ARM mac chip, a two year old tablet SoC translating a more complicated x86 ISA to ARM still performs better than the Qualcomm SQ1 in the Surface Pro X running native, or just above a 2012 iMac, which while old is still a 91W TDP and running its own native ISA benchmark, again.

“That would put it right up against the performance of Nvidia’s GTX 1050—if Apple’s demo was actually running from an integrated GPU and not a dedicated GPU, but we’re going to assume it was an integrated GPU.”

Right when they started talking about the ARM transition, they said everything we saw today was running on

There’s really no reason they couldn’t have already done that on current macs, but they do offer the three security settings still (approved only, verified developers, or off). I’d expect that to continue.

Yeah I’m really hoping x86 boot camp makes it through emulation somehow. Sure, no one should buy a mac if their intent is largely gaming, but if you need a mac for whatever reason they’re perfectly capable of doing some gaming on the side with boot camp, particularly dedicated GPU models, so losing boot camp when

I really hope it makes it somehow. I’m excited to see what they can do with higher wattage chips, but I also don’t want to lose x86 boot camp, or a VM if that’s not possible.

“Generally, x86 chips with their Complex Instruction Set Architecture (CISC) are better equipped to handle more intensive tasks like video editing or 3D modeling than ARM-based chips with their Reduced Instruction Set Computer architecture.”

I think this is a bit broad. This is more architecture than instruction set,

Motile 14! I got one, it’s amazing for the price, has two m.2 slots that both support NVMe and one RAM slot, 2.5 pounds and great battery life/performance for the price

Interested in 7nm AMD APUs for mobile. It’s too bad they weren’t able to capitalize on Intels 10nm delays for mobile sooner, as it stands something like the AMD Surface Laptop 15" is just a worse product for using their 12nm part than the Intel business 15, in about every way, Ice Lake even closed the gap with Vega

Don’t bite the penis

Don’t squeeze the balls hard

Who said that was a thing to do, Cosmo?

My favorite part was when the Jawa in the cockpit turned around and just said “Egg” reverently.

I miss weird tech in general! Remember the Joojoo tablet? The Wikireader, which wanted to put wikipedia in your pocket right when smartphones blew up? The Chumby?

God, those were a minute ago now, huh.

Yeah, their hardware design is right up there trading blows with Apple. I just think they could have gone more ambitious on the chipset, seeing the interior volume on ifixit.

Maybe a Surface Laptop 3 “Pro” that provides the wattage expected of a 15", otherwise this sort of ends up like an expensive LG Gram, though

The web browsing battery life is nothing special either, but video playback does appear to be Intels biggest battery life advantage against AMD.

When it’s a 15W, ultrabook tier chip, in a 15" body no smaller in dimension than a MBP 15 (two 35/45W chips), and posts worse battery life than most of its direct competitors, is that really something special?

The Surface team makes great hardware but they made some weird choices here. Maybe they were leaning on that

“Worse, it’s kind of fuzzy. The iPhone 11's 6.1-inch LCD has a 1,792 by 828 resolution and 326 pixels per inch.”

Almost every time I bring up a 326ppi LCD iPhone’s slight blockiness online, internet denizens rush to tell me I can’t see what I’m seeing because they misunderstood what Steve Jobs said about retina on

It was a very camera heavy keynote. I’d want the Pro because I’m not going for another 326ppi LCD iPhone, but don’t necessarily need so much camera. Maybe I’ll just get a battery swap on my 7 and last till 2020 as the whole line is rumored to go OLED then.

It’s spin, but not a lie. It’s definitely faster than something like an N5000, and budget laptops are the overwhelming majority of PCs.

Bit surprised that the chip didn’t change to at least the A11. A10 should be ok for several more years of iOS updates, but obviously not as impressive now as it was 3 years ago, and I have started to notice more hiccups and pauses on my iPhone 7 with the same chip, not exactly a speed demon anymore.
