I love how aggressively bad faith the takes are. “You didn’t actually find anything to like, you’re just mindlessly fawning over it.”

But enough about the MCU and Spandex movies...

The point is that Sharon Tate deserves to be remembered for who she was, not how she died. The Mansons don’t get to write the story just because they did a horrible thing. She was a talented, energetic, loving woman and we should think about that more than we think about the butchery.

That tracks for me. I loved Once Upon... and detested Hateful Eight.

THAT IS NOT WHAT WORSHIP MEANS!

Manson... worship? Did the meaning of worship change to the opposite while I was eating lunch?

That’s crazy. The film didn’t blame her death on anything.

I wouldn’t call that a subplot, that was backstory for Pitt’s character. It establishes why he’s at a professional low ebb (which in turn is important for the relationship between Rick and Cliff, as Rick is the only one still trying to get him work), as well as his potential capacity for violence.  It’s supposed to

But really, what does it even mean for “something to happen” in films? Really, it’s all just images on a screen. An image of people talking is happening just as much as an image of exploding spaceships. What are we doing anyway?

then blames her death on her thoughtless failure to be a hardbitten action TV star with a flamethrower

It affects how we think about the character. He’s the “hero” of the film, though he’s not the protagonist, and that ambiguity makes him less of a clear-cut one

There was zero Manson worship in this. In fact the ending was a revenge on Manson fantasy.

As someone who legit hates feet, that’s the one gripe of yours I do agree with.

The detail was stunning but in hindsight countless scenes had no real point.

You’re entitled to your very, very wrong opinion.

All the comic book films are basically the same, except Spiderverse which is genuinely wonderful.

Oh, I fully agree with you. I’m not a Spandex Movie fan in any sense: I was one of the few folks defending that ‘hack’ Scorsese.

Because the movies are not that great. Winter Soldier is the best they put out and even then it does not make my top 5 of Comic movies.

Now that I’m old I haven’t seen enough of the films on this list to debate that...but as someone who is not into Spandex movies I want to say that you’re wrong anyway :)

It’s mostly just entertainment. That’s the purpose. But that doesn’t mean it’s exempt from criticism.
