I think suggesting that Kurt wrote Live Through This does a major disservice to Hole as a group, not just Courtney Love. I've heard a lot of Courtney's music over the years, including her pre-Hole band with Kat Bjelland and Jennifer Finch, and her style is varied. You know what sounds nothing like Nevermind? Bleach.

Ugh, there's always one of you that pops up whenever Courtney Love is mentioned on Jezebel.

I mean, I kinda don't blame her. She was still his mother.

There's actually been a lot of really disturbing rumors about Hayden's family; not to mention that her father's domestic abuse is mentioned in the post.

I grew up in a small town that was affected by a Walmart takeover and moved to New York City for college. I remained in NYC for six years, much of the time being incredibly broke, but because of geography I was forced to plan on spending local, rather than having the easy out of a big box store.

It's not about what she wants in a ring

Publishers aren't going to turn away well-written books any time soon. I actually think that books like Fifty Shades could be really positive for the industry - they make their bread and butter from the smut, which leaves more room to take risks on new authors who write contemporary lit.

First Chicago winter here! I am inconvenienced at the exact same rate as I was on the east coast.

A few years ago, Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Weiner took the NYT (and the publishing industry in general) to task for marketing books by men more favorably than books written by women. At the center was the hype given to The Corrections. You can read more about it here:

... but how did you feel about The Corrections?

I work in a sex shop in Chicago. Yesterday was one of the worst work days I've ever had.

I mentioned in another thread that my super white, working class, rural high school in the middle of Michigan Militia country covered Till and black history as part of our standard curriculum. After reading the responses here, I'm wondering if many school districts just don't consider black history a priority.

I also grew up in a small town in northern Michigan, where my 300-person high school had a grand total of four black students, and Emmett Till was still a major focus in our standard (not AP!) tenth grade history class. I hated that high school for a lot of reasons, but I appreciate that they felt that Emmett Till

Haha what? In what way is this concern trolling?

I'm not a huge fan of the Church's stance on social policies but the thing that bothers me is that anti-Catholicism in the United States seems especially virulent. The US is a historically Protestant country and it seems like there is a lot of holdover from the days when being a practicing Catholic was actually

I've seen them at Walgreens. Planned Parenthood will usually have them in their free boxes, too.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who immediately pulled this up.

It's been 12 years since Party Hard. I am so glad he's still around.

Seriously. That woman is the ultimate ham.
