Alan Dean Foster’s “The Tar-Aiym Krang”. Better than any episode of Trek, this book introduced me to some great stuff - intelligent human sized insects, the completely impossible KK interstellar drive, the Humanx Commonwealth, a winged planet!

+1 for Tom Swift. Read them as a kid in the 70’s - most of the tech didn’t seem dated (yet). Very cool with the nuclear-powered giant jet.
