“Amateurs shouldn’t critique art.”
I totally agree, however I do also recognize that some artists are married to their technique which is why the underlined portion of my original comment. If a white photographer can’t light Black skin properly or effectively work with Black skin or hair, then that artist should step aside and make room for someone…
The Help is just as stupid as Forrest Gump on race relations.
Here’s an interview with Dario Calmese, the photographer behind that amazing Viola Davis cover photo. The meaning behind the image makes it even more powerful.
I’m worried he’s going to encourage his fascist fan club to rise up and commit terrorist acts.
I take some comfort from the fact BLM protests were much larger than the anti-shutdown/ anti-mask protests. I have no doubt there will acts of terrorism, like driving cars into people and mass shootings, but I think his supporters will do that if he wins too.
Yup. And here’s an article discussing the cinematography of Insecure:
This is what happens when a Black photographer works with dark skin. It’s not just about how it looks. It’s about the subtext that comes with it. There is deep history in this photograph that a lot of people, Black and white won’t see. (Read the article at the link for more info.)
They are not scilons. Tom Cruise tried hard to recruit them - along with the Beckhams, who were based in LA at the time. There are photos of them (and Katie Holmes) together from back then. But he failed.

She’s so good. And also, she’s nearly 50. I mean. Jesus. She’s nearly two decades older than Phillipa Soo but the energy between them read so well as sisterly. She was my favorite performance in the show. Just brilliant.
Yah but the point is high school history class *should* be a place to hash these things out.
I’m a Broadway lover in general and there really was a lot to like here, the cast in particular. I wasn’t prepared for the crying though! I don’t know if it hit differently because of this dumpster fire of a year, but I cried about 6 times.
After watching it, I thought my ‘LMM was the weakest part of the show’ was going to be a spicy take. turns out, thats how everyone feels!
He’s a sociopath, but he is also a coward.
I’ve never watched the Twilight movies and I am sure they are terrible and ridiculous.
She was a working actress for a decade before Twilight, nominated for a Tony award and Drama Desk award at age 12 - I think her career was pretty well “kicked off”. Her first movie role was Camp which is a weird little movie but she’s fantastic in it and I think that basically laid the foundation for her long string…
