I could picture my next car being one of these, if it’s brought to the U.S.

tourings have way better resale value up here than sedans.  worth the extra.

Apparently you can overdo the badge delete option.

Worth noting that the difference in price also includes a sweet pano roof in the current 3 series. Given that a moonroof is about a $1,000 option in the sedan, that’s actually not bad.

Drove one of these at a BMW event at my job last year. From my humble, non auto journalist/rich person experience, this was the the best riding car I’ve ever driven. Even over rougher roads, the firmness/dampening you can achieve with a stiff, light carbon tub is unlike anything I’d felt before.

Then you miss the point, that the 1.5L *engine* is not the point.

It’s a variant of a base Mini 3-cylinder... with a monster turbo on it, because the hybrid drive is more than a stop-start system, it actually is a stop-and-go drivetrain in itself, up to a certain speed.

It still needs more power.

Someone in my small town just bought one of these (same color even), and it is gorgeous.

In the real world, this is $50K+ cheaper than an NSX new.

Modern BMW steering is well weighted, direct, and accurate. The main complaints are regarding feedback of which there is almost none. I haven’t driven an i8, but I imagine there’s not much on it either. Even the M3 is not very good at communicating with the driver.

I heard it had the same supports and links for the rear sway bar as the 2019 Supra, so it’s basically a toyota right? /s

At first I was going to say “but it’s not a supercar!”, but then I realized you can get into a McLaren for not much more, which apart from not being a shares the same “looks different” and other benefits of the i8.

WEIGHT3,394 LBS

You could get a $40K discount on a new one too. I’d rather have a new one.

And a bunch of Subarus new and old. But the i8 is still cool and looks great, it’s not all about the numbers

BMW says that the i8 will hit 60 from a standstill in 4.4 seconds, which is an extremely respectable time. Not supercar fast, but probably faster than most people realize.

This is the best looking current production BMW and its not even close. I love seeing these on the road, especially in electric blue.

It’s amazing that a car this old (at least design-wise) is still turning heads everywhere it goes. BMW really doesn’t need to change the design on this thing at all, they nailed it the first time.

Personally, I don’t buy the “too PC” argument. I think it’s more to do with the kids on campus today have all been born after Seinfeld went off the air. Different generations find different things funny.
