It's not an argument for or against Apple, it's an argument that the cost of creating a product cannot simply be measured by tearing down said product and tallying the cost of each part. I doubt Wired is trying to suggest that R&D is a cost that Apple endures, but other don't. (if they don't - they're doing it wrong)

It's always been a mystery to me why Apple hasn't implemented a WebOS type multitasking system, cause they've had one all along! Why not use the same system they use for handling mulitple pages in the safari app? A double tap would simply zoom out from the current app, showing all the open apps in a side-scrolling…
