Is it still considered piracy if you already pre-ordered the game and just want to play it sooner on superior hardware?

because there’s no way to prove the tool is being used for piracy just because it *can* be used for piracy.

This is one of those situations where everyone gets off on a technicality. Yeah, some people use emulation tools to play and mod games they legally own, but the vast majority use it for piracy. Especially in the case of Zelda, where the game isn’t even out yet so literally every single instance of emulation thus far is

I’m glad you made this comment to pre-empt my comment:

Part of me is thinking ‘so the true villain is once again capitalism but you’re not saying anything constructive’ and the other part of me is thinking ‘the fucking onus is not on Luke Plunkett of Kotaku to prescribe anything to anyone’ so I guess I’m just exasperated. It’s hard to escape the consumer cycle for a lot

Huh, as a long time PC gamer, I’m not angry, I haven’t been angry about it for quite a while, quite the opposite, I’ve been very optimistic.
Reading the article, I think this is in huge part because I just excluded myself from everything on the bleeding edge. Plus I guess I also purposefully skip most of the drama that

The majority of PC ports are fine. Not necessarily perfect but they look and run well for the majority of players. Bad ports are the outliers. They just get a lot more attention because negativity gets more clicks. RE4 Remake was fine. Grounded was fine. Evil West was fine. High on Life was fine. Atomic Heart was

I understand the doomerism - it’s been part of gaming for decades - but “bleed us dry” is a bit dramatic. Things get more expensive to make, but the $60 you drop on a game today is worth much less, in real terms, than the $50 you’d have dropped in the 90's.

I realise this is a simplistic/obvious take, so much so it delayed me getting around to writing this, but I also figured it was worth putting on record anyway, so here it is. Of course this doesn’t apply just to PC games, or even video games, it’s something affecting our daily lives across most industries, but PC

Street Fighter 6 feels like a shot in the arm for Capcom’s long-running fighting series after Street Fighter V’s middling reception

Lol everybody said the console market was dying at the beginning of last gen as well and Sony cranked out nearly 120 million PS4's. The PS5 is already on pace to surpass that. Nintendo sells Switches hand over fist. Only the Xbox is really seeing struggles in the hardware market, and you have to think that’s largely

Redfall started development before the Bethesda acquisition so I doubt its core vision had anything to do with MS. Bethesda tried making niche, single-player games before. They all sold poorly. Dishonored 2, Prey, Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, Evil Within 2... all were commercial failures. So, Bethesda decided they

Its really rough because I grabbed a Series S this year and I feel like on the tech side MS is doing a lot of things right. I have a lot of BC games, the Gamepass is the best deal in town.

But on the other hand, eh? There is a decent handful of exclusives but they all run on PC anyway. And I can choose between the high

75% of my Switch library is indie games that cost $20-30. I miss those middle-shelf games from the early 2000s that maybe weren’t super polished but tried something new and could sink a couple hours into, and the indie scene fills that niche. Not every game needs to be a spectacle. Hell, more often then not the

I’m not shocked. Ever sat through the end credits of a AAA game? Takes almost as long to get through them as the game itself, and this is for a long game. All those people have to get paid, and sometimes it’s not even a complete list.

There seems to be a growing perception that every AAA game must be a forever-game with 60+ hours of busy-work over a highly replayable game.

Yeah, those marketing budgets are fucking ridiculous.

For fuck’s sake. I’ve lost track how many high profile PC games are complete trash on release.
