“Rounding out the libraries” is giving this set of games way too much credit. I know they’re scraping the bottom of the NES and SNES barrels (add Chrono Trigger!), but there are so many excellent GBC / GBA games that could be added at a much faster pace than this annoying trickle that’s become the norm since the Wii

Might be more for the youth, since Harvest Moon hasn’t been very relevant since what, the Gamecube? And now has to use a different name?

I agree, although I think Northern Crater is a better endpoint for Rebirth, as (spoilers for a 25 year old game I guess) the events at the Crater are good endgame material, especially with the Weapons waking and everything going to hell, all of that might feel strange to start a game with. I think the scene where Tifa

Really interesting for them to comment that you don’t need to play the first game to understand the second, considering the wave of confused reactions from people who hadn’t played the OG before Remake. I’m sure they’re probably making a cool recap video or using that new lore pause menu thing from XVI, but that’s

“GOOD NEWS - THERE WILL BE A SOUNDTRACK WITH MUSIC”

So glad to hear this! I’ve listened to a lot of gaming podcasts over the years, but Waypoint’s particular mix of exploring big new releases as well as unusual or unique games / genres, the culture and politics around gaming, and the labor that creates it hits just the right mix for me and is sadly lacking in most

I was wondering the exact same thing. If nothing else, beyond being close to existing industry players like you mentioned, don’t you want to make it easier to attract the best and brightest to dedicate their lives to your service? Seems like a much tougher ask to get highly-educated professionals and engineers to move

Me: “I really don’t see why this game needs to be PS5-exclusive, sure looks like PS4 should be able to handle it.”

I totally agree - like I said, I think he’s a boring character with very little gameplay potential. My idea was more of a “gun to my head / contractually obligated to make a game out of this absolute dud” situation, lemons from lemonade.

I don’t think Gollum’s a particularly interesting character and I have no intention of playing this game, but there are compelling hypothetical gameplay scenarios that could come from the character. It doesn’t sound like that happens in this game though. What if you have a really cinematic game that focuses on

If nothing else, I appreciate the “complete” state of this game (and from what it sounds like, FFXVI as well) at release from a preservation standpoint, I really wish more developers would prioritize this practice to help ensure their games have a long shelf life. I replay old entries from both these series often, and

I mean, I had to cut off the list somewhere, but yes. Also IV’s opening mission to burn down the summoner’s village, etc.

Hoo boy, what’re the odds the dog dies tragically and sends Clive into a full angry Batman mode?

Huh. I coincidentally visited this house for the first time last night, and it very clearly seems to be just Zelda’s. Link’s old house in BotW had spaces for equipment and weapons, there’s nothing of the sort here. In my head, I just imagined that Zelda had settled down somewhat in Hateno because she was so

Exactly! You need the humor and charm to create contrast and swings between light moods and dark. I’d argue that’s a core FF tenet as much as moogles and chocobos. Hopefully part of XVI’s broader arc is Clive growing past an obsession for revenge and channeling that into the drive to tear down the structures that

The various previews have solidified the fact that the footage up to this point has really left me cold as a lifelong FF fan. I’m not terribly bummed (FF7 Remake is one of my favorite games of all time, so more of that soon really helps the FOMO), but it is strange to be on the outside of the hype cycle looking in for

I’m constantly amazed that the husk of Gamestop has shambled this far...I went into one for probably the first time since the Switch launch to pick up TotK, and it’s such a shell of its former glory. There are so many fewer games themselves in the store, with a higher proportion being taken over by meme shirts,

I definitely think I read some similar tip when I started that was along the same lines. Meanwhile, I constantly forget about Recall when enemies are throwing shit at me and my inventions topple over a cliff.

Yeah, they’d really have to take some big unexpected swings to get me interested in buying a PS5 at this point...I’d love if they showed any respect for their older franchises (Ape Escape 4! Wipeout!). But I’m not even sure if most of their interesting studios still exist.

Fans reacting to Majora’s Mask: Look what they have done to my Legend of Zelda games!
