I haven’t played Infinite yet and may be out of the loop, but it’s very surprising that 343 would cancel the much-promised co-op feature without saying why...I wonder if it’s a weird technical limitation of having two players running around large open world campaign maps that may force them to stream in extra assets

Look everyone, yet another reason to never use Gamestop! Like we needed another! If you want a physical copy of a game, go support your local gaming shops. And if you want digital, I don’t know what you were doing at Gamestop.

Oh look, someone acting like a little bitch because everything, even video games, exist within a broader social and political context - especially large gaming events that bring together a large community. If you don’t want that context then why are you still on Kotaku, when that has been their specialty for most of

I’ll never understand how modern consoles keep launching without that basic bit of UI that their predecessors had for years. The PS3 had folders for ages, then it took forever for the PS4 to add them (and same old dance with the PS5, even though the lesson should’ve stuck). Wii and Wii U had folders for ages (as did

I agree! And it’s actually why I probably enjoyed Dark Souls II more than most - if I remember right, the enemies in the run up to the boss only respawn X number of times (5-10?) in a row, and once you defeat them that many times in short succession they won’t respawn for a while. Felt like both a slight concession to

Even though it won’t be included in Game Pass anymore (because their agreement with the FF series is some hot nonsense), FFXIII is still well worth the few bucks it costs and holds up incredibly well.

I’m also surprised that this is still releasing this year, but maybe it’s because it sure looks like “the same God of War you love, but more!” Which is totally okay! Not every sequel needs to completely rebuild from the ground up or dramatically shake things up (and I’d argue most don’t), sometimes it’s best to just

To be fair, I have no idea how any information stays secret when the development team is a few hundred people spread across the world.

For games I know I’m buying day one digitally and don’t want to wait for my PS4 or Switch to download when I could be playing them instead, that makes sense to me. Usually I’ve already read reviews and am just buying it the day before -the last example was Xenoblade 3. That seems different in my mind from a preorder,

The biggest crime of all? That goddamn carpet.

I was thinking about this the other day. I think it’s just the easiest shorthand, since genres are usually too broad to actually describe what a game is anymore. So using a widely-known genre classic becomes more useful sometimes. Even roguelike is referring to the extremely old classic game Rogue, the same way

Whoa whoa whoa...regional variations was a great addition! Not only does it allow for interesting variations on old favorites who weren’t competitive before, it also references the real world phenomenon of divergent species and different evolution paths, especially because of isolation on islands.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus still had a four move limit, but you could now change those four moves easily from the main menu. So it was more like creating and swapping loadouts rather than “my Alakazam forgot how to use a basic move”. That easy swapping really came in handy for some of the final bosses.

I remember playing the Destroy All Humans games around the time they came out and thinking they were fun, but nothing that interesting. Then a few months ago I bought a used BC PS3 that I didn’t expect to work but surprisingly worked flawlessly (for $35!) and had a copy of DAH in the drive. I thought I’d just play for

I thought the couple times they’ve had a demo where you get a taste of the game and then can get a special Pokemon were great (at least ORAS, maybe another as well?), but I also understand these demos were the sources of huge leaks of info about the Pokedex and world before release, so I can understand why they

To go with the lingo...

And five years on, after the absolute dogshit fanboy wankfest that was Rise of Skywalker and a wildly uneven set of TV shows (Boba Fett, the walking action figure whose entire personality is ‘looks cool I guess’, is...a nice boss), I still love The Last Jedi and think it’s still one of the best pieces of Star Wars

For sure. Then again, I don’t know what the breakdown is between Series S & X sales, but I’d assume many people shopping for a new console consider the $299 S next-gen, so an extra $50 for the PS5 really widens that price gap.

Man, the real mic drop would be if Microsoft finally released that rumored streaming dongle in time for the holidays...super cheap access to Game Pass on any screen? Considering how little Microsoft seems to care if Xbox actually sells, the number of extra subscriptions they’d get from that dongle would be insane and

I have very nearly zero FOMO - that will increase somewhat when FF7R Part Deux and FFXVI are PS5 exclusive for a while. I love that series dearly, but at this point that’s far from enough to get me to buy a $400-500 console and two $70 games, so here’s hoping that it’s only a year after launch to get PC versions.
