Oh, I get that! Whatever works at the time. :)
Oh, I get that! Whatever works at the time. :)
I was buying 3 pound bags of potatoes but they’re 30 cents less than the five pounders. When I have a 5 pounder and the time, I make mashed potatoes and freeze them in small portions in my vacuum sealer. I use a waxed paper sandwich bag, fill it 3/4 full, fold the top over then put that in a sealer bag and seal it…
It’s funny here. I’ll buy a 5 pound bag of potatoes and use them in a week. I’ll buy a 5 pound bag of potatoes and they’ll turn to sugar or start growing before I can use them all. I don’t know why, it just goes in spurts. So when they do the latter, the canned ones are lifesavers. I’ve tried the brand name canned by…
I have been buying canned potatoes forever. My choice was not influenced by the fact that I too grew up poor and there were times when we went four or sometimes five days without food in the house other than half a loaf of bread left. It came from convenience when I was young and single and too tired at the end of the…
I just buy the store brand. They usually have sliced, whole and cubed and I keep a couple cans of sliced, one whole and one cubed because I never know what I’ll be making but they sure last longer than fresh at my house and are just as tasty. And a lot quicker.
Four things I always have to thicken with; flour, cornstarch, gelatin and instant potato flakes. Depending on what I’m thickening depends on what I use and they pretty much cover most everything I cook with. I used to keep tapioca as well but I can no longer find just the powder without the beads where I live and I…
That’s funny!!! One of my dogs loved the little Alpine Strawberries I used to grow. I could never understand why I didn’t get any ripe ones and though maybe it was the birds until I caught him one day, picking the ripe ones as daintily as you please off the plant and leaving all the green ones behind. He used to do…
I too have a phantom patch of asparagus. It comes up every year and I get a few more stalks every year as well. There’s just enough for a small side dish because of course, they don’t all come up at the same time, darned things. We do have a friend whose mother has two acres of the stuff so I end up with pounds and…
The only time I like lettuce is using it for a wedge salad. Any other time and I have no use for it at all. I realize I am an oddity, but I am happy in my oddness, thank you very much.
I drop a small dollop of mayo in the mustard along with some salt and pepper and if I have any leftover minced onion, that goes in too. Then I just smear it on the eggs as I eat them. Definitely a deconstructed deviled egg for me and a lot easier because I can take the eggs in a waxed paper bag and the mustard mix in…
Except he sent them anonymously with the intention of her never knowing. If he’d sent them with his name on them or address or phone number then yeah, creepy. So I disagree. She was never supposed to know. She was supposed to just be happy for a minute, that’s all.
Is this the same Bed of Roses with Christian Slater? The charming, romantic, sometimes funny, happy ending love story that I watched? Because I remember a shy florist who was burned before and a woman who doesn’t really know what love is, learning what it’s supposed to be, but I don’t remember any horror.
I tried this once with water that thankfully was not salted. The top of the plant’s dirt got moldy. I ended up having to repot them all so no, this advice obviously was written by someone who hasn’t tried it in real life and just thought it sounds good.
Yeah...tomatoes in the fridge end up tomatoes with no flavor at all. None. I can always find something to do with an overripe tomato. As to overripe cherry tomatoes, I blister them with a little garlic, salt, pepper and olive oil and a splash of that pasta water and put them over the pasta I’ve just cooked. Maybe a…
Hahahaha!!!
I have. I honestly just don’t have room for one more thing. I keep getting rid of stuff and I still don’t have room for things. I downsized when we moved here. I’ve gotten rid of boxes of kitchen stuff, given it away and I swear, they multiply during the night when we’re sleeping. :(
I only ever use O-Live. I don’t know if they’re the best, but I like it. I like the flavor, the price, their “about us,” the fact that I can actually find it locally...pretty happy with it.
Alas, I have no waffle maker and seriously, not one more inch of space to store one so I shall live vicariously through this post. But I’m with the Doc. “Falafel Waffle” is very fun to say!
I have never had anything poached in olive oil. This morning, it just doesn’t sound good. Tomorrow, I might feel differently. And for what it’s worth, I really, really dislike cornmeal. Give me a really nice piece of salmon that’s grilled or some halibut braised in a little cream and butter and I’m a happy camper.
I have a little aerator, don’t remember where I got it even, and if I have to spray my non-stick pans with something, which is rare, I have that filled with olive oil and I just use that. I use that for baking things in the oven, casseroles, scalloped potatoes, things like that where I want a little coating before I…
