Well, any wizard economy is going to be extreme post-scarcity, so only creative and services jobs would exist.

That’s not a partisan thing — neither party wants an independent PR. Hell, not even all Puerto Ricans want an independent Puerto Rico, and for good reason: it is extremely difficult to run an island nation at anything approaching an American standard of living. If you think they’re screwed now, imagine how effed

We absolutely should not repeal the Jones Act just because Trump’s failure to waive it makes it a useful partisan club. Do you have any idea what that would do to the shipping industry or the impact it would have on our national security (and this is coming from a peacenik)?

The real problem that Puerto Rico has is the

Hatred of the other is universal to human experience.

I want to ask why, because I’m curious if you can come up with something that isn’t awful.

That neither requires nor justifies a system that pretends children are adults when we are super grossed out by their mental illness.

Look, lying about cheating is not gaslighting. It’s crappy behaviour, but if “gaslighting” is that mundane it’s a useless term.

Because obviously the only two options are try them as adults and let them go without treating them or assessing their danger to society. It’s not like a third way — say state-mandated treatment with in-patient care if necessary — exists. No, sirree. Better to be the ONLY DEVELOPED NATION that tries minors as adults.

I doubt it. To kill again you have to have killed somebody in the first place.

That’s a hell of a rant over a painting that is not, in fact, on display anywhere.

The verdict is bad because it’s bad law, not because the woman doesn’t deserve punishment.

Why?

You’re talking about felony murder and accomplice liability, which are separate issues. In either case: a crime has to be committed for liability to attach; the death itself is not the crime.

It’s true that what she did is morally reprehensible, whereas what you did is not. However — the mens rea element of involuntary manslaughter is recklessness, not intent. Are you comfortable with the possibility that the state could have construed your words as encouraging — not intentionally, but recklessly — your

If your friend had died, would you have deserved to serve time? That is essentially what your support of this verdict is suggesting.

You don’t have to feel bad for the girl to think that this was a bad verdict.

Given that you don’t appear to value principles that are foundational to our society, it’s comforting to know that you’re the sort of person who has the least ability to influence it.

You’re not the brightest crayon in the box, are you? Contradictory speech is not censorship — it’s speech. When I tell you that you’re woefully ignorant and self-important, and remark that this combination is sadly typical of college students who think they’ve got a valuable grasp of society even though they’re

That doesn’t make even a little bit of sense. If they’re going to come after you for bills, it’ll happen no matter what you do. If it drains your savings, then you’ll be stuck and unable to get a new place. If you spend the savings getting your new place first, then the worst they can do is come after you

No way, the advice is sound. If the other person is hurt, they’re going to be obsessively speculating over how long you’d been mulling the break-up anyway. Having a place lined up is the best possible insurance against a bad situation developing, and is more than worth the possible marginal discomfort to the dumpee.
