They’ve been doing stuff like this in prisons for quite a while (in certain cases it is legal). Detention centers hold people not convicted of a crime and thus protected under the 13th amendment.

I hope this is a step to outlawing this perversion of justice.

Unfortunately we have a not insignificant portion of the population that thinks this treatment is a-ok because these people are undocumented.

Just a reminder that people who are being held in immigration detention centers are not being punished for crimes, but these centers are nonetheless run very much like prisons.
