I likely won’t have many people agree with me, but I think she would likely be just as famous without the sex tape. It was Ryan Seacrest and her goofy family that got her to a level of fame that was sustainable. I think if the sex tape never existed the show still would have been a hit.

Not to mention, she was repeatedly rumored as the person ratting out Paris Hilton's private gossip to gain proximity to media and access to events, so if that's the case, "the real me" is a massively opportunistic asshole that sold out her best friend.
