Etymology is not always a good indicator of...well, anything, really. I have a very strong aversion to the “argument from etymology” (which is a fallacy, by the way). The harm of some of these phrases is still extant, and they should be avoided because there is still some of the implicit harm in them. However, some of

I was teaching high school when LeBron’s high school games were being broadcast on ESPN. He can call me youngun’.

Don’t worry; all the stars are going to the Delhi Escorts, apparently. I guess there’s some sort of cross-sectional association with Cavs fans?

You’re the hero here. I thought about doing that, but I wanted to read a little more in this thread first. Ugh.

In the tense he used, it’s “pique”, not “piqued” as in, “you’ll pique my interest as a chemist” as opposed to “my interest as a chemist was piqued by this.”

It’s a little more than promotes. I didn’t start hating him until I learned about this TB12 bullshit.

Chris Weinke? Really? Like, the 40-year-old Heisman winner Chris Weinke?

Prince died intestate; the court determined what to do with his estate, and it didn’t have any official documentation as to how he wanted his likeness treated. I’m guessing none of his public comments really counted for the court, but I don’t know. It sucks.

Another reason to get writing that will and testament.

I love you for this. Fuck James Harrison.

No, it’s worse than that. Collinsworth didn’t even want it to be a reception. He wasn’t talking fumble, he was talking incomplete pass the whole way.

We all guffawed and that and I explained to my cynical children that it’s his job to be positive about everything, and my son said, “except the Eagles touchdowns.”

Yeah, Collinsworth was absolutely terrible this game. He had a storyline scripted in his head, and he couldn’t quite catch up with reality.

Nice work there, Paul Harvey.

Awesome. I appreciate the response, and it seems like you’re evaluating as much on what they attempted as on what they “accomplished.” Many historians and ranking systems are pretty crap and are heavily results-biased in their evaluations. Thanks!

I dig this list. Personally, I’m a fan of Herbert Hoover. He probably gets the worst shrift from history of any president. In the ‘32 campaigns, the argument between him and FDR was that FDR’s plan didn’t do enough (which was true). It’s so ironic that we forget this, but FDR didn’t campaign on a platform of “spend a

That’s generally the consensus. I think Taft actually has a lot in common with Carter, in that he was personally unreproachable, but his administration didn’t adequately respond to the exigencies of the time.

I’ll, uh, grant you that both Grant and Taft were two very upstanding people, and probably close to Carter in terms of personal morality, but as presidents, they’re also considered about on par with Carter (who I rank higher than most people do, but I recognize my criteria are different than most).

Anyone who still hates Thatcher is all right in my book.

Trammell and Morris were Veteran’s committee picks, not ballot-picks.
