that has been an annoyance. i assume it has to do with firefox’s anti tracking measures, and instagram’s tracking code being too deeply embedded to extricate and still present the content.
100% agree on all points. i usually enjoy gifs too but some of the ads use gifs to animate, and i enjoy stopping those too. the extension i have on firefox puts a little red-bordered semitransparent box over any autoplaying video or gif and if you want to launch it, you just click the box. otherwise, it’s motionless…
i found a couple that stop the videos. they don’t seem to stop gifs, which may or may not be a problem for you. AutoplayStopper seems like the best one so far, in terms of ease of use.
the best gift i’ve given myself in several years is the ‘disable autoplay’ extension i downloaded for firefox. works like a charm, on gifs and on videos. the one catch is sometimes when i want to watch the video, the box doesn’t always appear immediately so i have to click play and then really quickly click the little…
for troubleshooting purposes, i can’t see instagram posts when i use firefox. i think it’s something about the built-in tracker blocking measures, and i guess the tracking is just embedded too deep in the instagram embed code to where the whole thing gets zapped. on chrome, it works fine.
