yeah i’d be astonished if trump could remember the rules to checkers. but he’s not the only person involved in this sordid affair - other conservative operatives who’ve publicly distanced themselves from trump are trying to promote this story. it’s possible they’re hoping to somehow stop his nomination at the rnc.

i would never propose a scenario in which trump is smart, but it looks like this is the action of other conservative forces and thus is probably executed more as an anti-clinton thing from some other faction on the right.
