MacFarlane wasn't a good host by any means, but he was infinitely better than Franco and Hathaway, which remains the worst Oscars telecast I've ever seen by a pretty wide margin (with most of the blame going to Franco obviously).

I liked the pizza gag too, in theory, but it went on for waaay too long (and not long enough to get into rake gag territory).

That's a good point, and Boardwalk is generally far better about this sort of thing than GoT is. But even in those cases the women still exist solely to say something about the men. They're not really drawn as characters or even as people in their own right the way the girls at the Gem are.
