This. Mitch is an evil bastard but he owns that political chessboard and none of the current batch of Democrats even come close to matching his skills.

And it worked.

Do you know what pisses me off the most? That McConnell is way better at political chess than Democrats could ever hope to be. Sure he’s an evil motherfucker but he’s also a brilliant political strategist, and as much as he hates Trump he’s looking out for his party and the party’s prospects in the next election and

I don’t know how well you know DC but if people who work in close proximity in or for the government weren’t allowed to date, no one in this city would ever get laid. It’s a one-industry town.

If he had a pattern of this, maybe. Given the circumstances, I’d say it’s a reasonable and compassionate response. But like I said, I seem to be the odd woman out when it comes to my level of bloodthirst, at least judging from the comments to this post.

Maybe. But I imagine he and his supervisors and his doctors know more than we do what the best course of action is and the extent to which his job is affected?

He has stage 4 lung cancer so that might be why they’re cutting him some slack.

Even if they have stage 4 lung cancer and are being asked about their personal life when it’s unwarranted (the girlfriend isn’t covering the WH anymore)?

The dude has stage 4 cancer and his girlfriend isn’t assigned to the White House so while his reaction was obnoxious, I’d say cut him some slack and also, why was he even being asked about his personal life when there’s no hypothetical ethical concern anymore since

But also, I find it fascinating as a foreigner living in America, it’s not just misogyny, it’s the weird puritanical undercurrent that is inseparable from American culture.

I’m over the public apology fetish of Americans. If someone apologises, it’s either not good enough (it never is) or there are comments like yours that it’s all about the perpetrator and not the victim and did anyone even ask the victim if they want an apology? And if there’s no apology there’s outrage over that as

Or, that was but one of the takeaways? I definitely noticed the insufferable writing style too. Doesn’t mean I don’t believe her or that I don’t support Whedon facing consequences, but it does mean my brain can handle several different thoughts and emotions on a topic at the same time. Fancy that!

It’s insufferable. That and random capitalizations make me want to stab people.

Louis CK has been redeemed? Or do you mean the string of appearances in clubs that are nowhere near the types of venues he was filling pre-scandal? Unless I missed something, he is nowhere near being as famous and successful as he was pre-scandal and has definitely taken a hit for what he did. Deservedly so, I might

Why a pillow company? Because there’s a right wing douchebag pillow dude out there and he saw an opportunity to cash in on his leftie darling status by randomly deciding he, too, will make pillows, but they will be ethical pillows and you can trust me because I’m a survivor of a horrible school shooting. I’m just

I’m sick and tired of Americans’ obsession with public apologies. It’s performative and empty.

Level of fame definitely plays a part. But not always - it doesn’t really seem to apply to Louis CK who was immensely successful, and despite the comparatively minor abuse he committed. Or Kevin Spacey, who was immensely famous and had a ton of clout.

Ahahahahaha you’re totally right. I think I automatically assume the worst hot takes are her, probably because that’s usually the case.

I wasn’t trying to make a sweeping comment about cancel culture other than to suggest that there are different rules for different people.

I mean, the fact that your school was split between Georgia and Utah is kind of a red flag. Neither of those states is exactly known for its commitment to human rights.
