Which is why he should be able to pass the test without issue, and maintain his license to drive a 4000 pound potential accidental death lawsuit on wheels.

What issues did you have with the Gen 3? I am currently driving a 2009 (last year of Gen 3) and the only thing I’ve had go out were the CV joint boots in front started leaking and were fixed under warranty and the HU crapping out due to poor soldering. It wasn’t a hardship as I replaced with an aftermarket stereo with

I had one of the outgoing generation.  It was an R design so it was great fun.  But it was no roomier than a VW Golf in most measurements and the luggage area was borderline pathetic.  It was very fast though. :-)

But with close to half the cargo space, no roof rack, not as good awd (please tell me they didn’t downgrade it in the lastcouple years and it still gets the real deal Subaru awd), no fog light option etc etc. Volvo if you live in a city and care what people think, outback if you just need a bad weather work horse.

This car is sitting in my driveway. Granted it’s the used car we bought for the teenagers to bang up. I always liked them and still think it’s a looker. Secretly, I  enjoy driving it whenever I get the chance.

Had to replace the steering rack in my sons 06 Legacy last year. And we won't talk about head gaskets and a cracked head. Having said that, when you consider we have had that car for thirteen years and it is still hanging in there it doesn't seem that bad.

I’m with both of you. 3rd and 2nd gen.

When they dropped the “Legacy” model things went to shit.

The Volvo v60 is cool yet practical.

And a reminder that it could be had with extra off road

I have a third gen XT (2008), and after bad injectors at 135k it’s been pretty solid despite having a hard life. I’ve had to replace a clutch, the steering rack, the radiator, and a few axles since then, but that’s largely it and I’m now at 205k

Honestly between the two, just about anything you can think of. One was an automatic (2005), the other a manual (2006).

Just a reminder that the Legacy GT wagon was a thing.

The styling of the 3rd gen was my favorite, but I had 2 of them (2005 and 2006) and they each spent more time being fixed than they did on the road. I’ve never had any vehicle so unreliable before or after.

Nah.. 3rd gen was perfect..

Has to be said - they really Rammed it in there.

And now what do you have? An isosceles triangle topper

The People’s Cascada.

Nice ride! I wish I still had mine. I was young and dumb back then though.

I moved on to a new car in mid 2017 but I still quite often miss my 2005 Legacy GT.  It was a good 12 years.
