He doesn’t have any financial interests in the health care industry right? He just needs his cheap Mexican speed.

Honestly as a young professional I thought J.Crew’s clothes were cute but they were expensive as fuck and they didn’t run sales as often (or as good) as Banana Republic or The Limited or Ann Taylor/LOFT so I never shopped there. I hope they go cheaper, I’d love some of their stuff for werq.

The problem I always had with Jenna Lyons is that she only produces clothes the look good on Jenna Lyons. Her style works for her. I always with she looks great! However, you can’t push a very personalized style into something for mass consumption and expect it to go well.

Their declining quality has been the biggest deterrent for me since oh, around 2005 or so. I still have a few pieces from the very early aughts that were initially expensive, but continue to serve as classic staples in my wardrobe.

Perfect comment. It was so clear that all of JCrew had mobilized to produce clothes along the lines of her no-hipped, pastel metallic, statement necklace loving aesthetic. It was bizarre how little progress there was from season to season, even as the clothing completely sidestepped classics that people could wear

Even the t-shirts are ridiculously overpriced for a tissue paper-thin t-shirt that’s going to last like, two wearings.

I ordered two sheath dresses last week and returned them immediately after opening the box. Cheapest fabric you’ve ever seen, with a super chintzy silver exposed zipper going up the back. Even at 30% off, no thanks. Oh and their tshirts get holes.

That’s what I’ve been thinking for awhile. Jenna Lyons can pull off a lot of looks that I cannot. Some of it’s body type, some of it’s personality, or just general lifestyle. I thought at first it was great because a lot of the stuff wasn’t the same old and not everything you sell has to be flattering or appropriate

Their sales have dipped because they have kept everything at the same inflated price and have reduced their quality. Their handbags and shoes are now noticeably fake, plasticky materials.

I never shop at J.Crew anymore because of the quality issues. Stuff I bought in the early aughts is still wearable but the last sweater I bought there was a goner a year later.

I think going “back to the basics” with an emphasis on quality is a good way to go, with a seasonal capsule collection for the more fashion forward pieces.

Where they lost me was in the decline in quality, especially in their pricier pieces. I have a cashmere sweater from over 20 years ago, and there is no comparison with what is on offer now. Their cashmere now is cheap looking, pills and is just nowhere near as nice. Of course it’s still very expensive. I like some

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It does not matter what rich kids on the internet think of your clothing, if the core hates them then they company is doomed. She had the support of trust-funder internet fashion people and no one else. Add to that the raising of prices and decline in quality, and you have

Good. I dislike cults of personality. All J Crew has been turning out are things she’d like to wear. Which is always unsustainable in the long run. Also, bring back quality folks. I expect something from H&M or Target not to last. But especially at JCrew prices I expect pieces to last.

So will the quality go back up? Nah? Alright, later.

God I remember when Jenna first came on board at J Crew and it was genuinely awesome and fashion-forward-ish there for a while. I even got an ill-advised J. Crew credit card during that era.

I’m very curious as to what you define as “clean.” Visibly clean? Free of germs? Free of dirt?

Ugh, same. I have a friend who is pregnant with her fourth kid and home-schools her oldest while also working. She recently pulled one of her kids from their church pre-school because of a Facebook fight she had about Trump with the instructor. People are already insufferable, now there are major political wars
