Trump made me nostalgic for W in his first week, which I also thought impossible. Although to be fair, as much as disliked Bush, I never actually believed that he actively wanted to damage us as a nation, never bought the theory that he had knowlage that a massive terrorrist attack was imminent, never believed that

Same here. I thought Bush II would be the worst President of my lifetime but Trump is already beating him (and Trump’s only been in for a little over two months).

Even when Bush Jr. was at his most war-crime-ish, he did not advocate for the demonizing of an entire group of people.

Bush did a lot of awful shit but ultimately, he was just a dopey idiot who was way under qualified and way over his head. Trump is an evil, narcissist asshole and also an idiot and under qualified. The big difference is, despite Bush being a terrible president, dude was at least a human being with feelings. Trump has

I don’t think anyone has forgotten. It’s more like, why couldn’t President W. have acted more like retired President W. The retired guy seems alright.

That’s the biggest separation between the two of them. W has a sense of humor, even about himself. Trump is just a mean and petty old asshole. He’s Mr. Potter from It’s a Wonderful Life. W is more like Sam “Hee-Haw” Wainwright. An obnoxious rich asshole, but kind of fun and doofy.

That’s the thing, “a guy I’d share a beer with” really shouldn’t be a metric we use for electing people to office. It’s fucking maddening that people didn’t vote for Hilary because they just didn’t like her. I don’t care if the president is a boring, buttoned-up douche, as long as they get the job done and don’t hurt

“I never thought I’d be saying that W isn’t the worst president of my lifetime.”

Yeah, it’s not that George Bush is any less bad, it’s that Donald has shown us how much worse a President could be.

Let’s not forget how GWB always spoke out against Islamophobia even though many Muslim Americans didn’t trust him. He kept emphasizing that it was un-American to look down at Muslims and he celebrated freedom of religion as 100% American. All that is gone now with Trump Shitstain.

Quaint is really the word we are looking for here. It’s how Watergate, and even Iran/Contra (where innocent Central Americans actually died) are looking in retrospect. Quaint.

Gella—somewhat related comment, but THIS IS HUGE!

Exactly. At least W was a joyous buffoon. At least you could laugh at him without the laughter sticking in your throat.

I never thought I’d be saying that W isn’t the worst president of my lifetime. Also, he may have been in someone’s pocket but at least he was bought and paid for by an American company instead of some Russian one. That’s true patriotism.

People I know who have met W. personally, and like hung out with him, not just shook his hand, all say he’s a genuinely nice guy. And some of these people went in with the idea that they’d hate him (grad students of Middle Eastern descent).

I used to think that no president could be worse than Bush.

If there wasn’t enough reason to utterly despise Donald Trump (and there are PLENTY of reasons) it’s that he’s humanized the truly terrible George W. Bush into someone who we’d want as president right now.

We now live in a world where I can relate to GW...

“That was some weird shit.”

Jesus, I cannot believe we live in a time when I now look at George Bush with a certain kind of fondness. It’s not that he’s redeemed himself in anyway...at least not in my eyes...it’s that he seems rather quaint compared to the COMPLETE MADMAN we have in the White House now.
