“ Let’s all take a breather and appreciate this historic moment for what it is—a female driver is joining the ranks of men in a series for the first time. Her results this year will speak for themselves.”

That being said, Abby from Grand Tour is driving this year after her Aussie Supercars drive fell through, and she was critical of it when it was announced. If she thinks it’s worth doing, she surely knows better than me.
why not create some opportunity in F2?
It’s already been well established that it’s actually the other way around: the payout in the W Series is insanely high compared to other, more competitive feeder series. The winner of the W Series gets about 4 or 5 times the prize money than the winner of the FIA F3 Championship.
lol. Not a fucking chance man. Jaime Chadwick won the W series and is a second a lap off her team mates in F3 Asia. She would be a firm zero point scoring backmarker in F2, and get lapped by her team mate in F1 nearly every race if she was fast enough to get past the 107% rule. How do you think that would look for…
And yet the pay out is significantly higher than the winners of the Formula 3 series, and half of a F3 grid would outdrive a W series winning driver. So.... how is that a problem?
“we’re living in a libertarian capitalist dystopia”
... The F3 champion only gets about $120K for winning. Other series get even less than that. This is actually a huge advantage for a W series driver, not a disadvantage.
They arent forced out though for winning. Yes you want to move up but its nice to know you can keep racing. Getting booted with no where solid to go sucks.
This is one of the dumbest of dumb takes ever. Imagine if you won a super bowl and the entire team then had to be disbanded and sign with other teams. Imagine if some player also wins the next season, and are now banned from the NFL. Congrats, you’re promoted to... playing football in Canada....
.... yay....
That’s also true of any series that is superlicense-sanctioned . I’ll tell you one thing though I’d sure as hell rather win The W Series where I walk into the next series with $500,000USD in my pocket than win Formula 3 where the champion wins the equivalent of $111,000USD. AT WORST this is a Formula 3 alternative for…
Imagine this happening in literally any other racing or sporting league
You know what keeps people interested? Being able to root for the same person and/or team each year.
W Series drivers will start being allowed to accumulate FIA superlicense points next season, Motorsport.com reports, which enables drivers to compete in Formula One once they have earned enough points. However, one of the criteria for becoming a superlicense-sanctioned series is that drivers who win the championship…
Alanis, I usually love the your articles, but come the fuck on. The Audi S3 has 288hp, the S4 349hp/369tq, the BMW 340i has 320hp, ONLY 19 MORE THAN A REGULAR TOYOTO CAMRY.... the Ct4-V is going to be a quick car that will directly complete with the S3/S4/340i for marketshare.
I love that “safety” and “Thing that let’s me pay less attention while driving” have become conflated to such an extreme...
The UAW kind of sucks, but it is still a union, and therefore inherently good.
That's funny. I thought NASCAR went left.
