Honestly, it’s been so many years, I was really expecting something that looked a little different and more impressive as well, rather than just, like... more BL. I guess we’ll see how it looks when gameplay videos drop, though.

Honestly, this jumped out to me as well. All the BL games have been horribly optimized - even on a top-tier PC for its time, mine struggled to run BL2 at a decent framerate. Seeing how chunky the frames are on this sizzle reel makes me slightly concerned.
If you’ve ever enjoyed loot games like Diablo, trust me - play Path of Exile. It actually has a really interesting and unique story if you slow down and listen to the NPCs (and good voice acting too!) but the story is mostly restricted to clicking on NPCs in town.
MHW was the first MH game I was able to get into and it really was a master class in game mechanics and a world that feels alive and draws you in.
Fair enough - it’s been a loooooooooong time since I played the Diablo (also old) and I don’t remember it that well.
I mean... Diablo III’s story was pretty cheeseball. The story in the first game seemed pretty straight-forward and sparse. The second one I don’t recall that well as I played it in high school.
Borderlands had it right in that it went for something light and funny and entertaining. I couldn’t get into the second one, but the first one I thoroughly enjoyed. I guess I’m thinking more like a BioWare level story in a loot game (which is what they tried to do here and mostly failed).
I’m starting to think that people with a lot of money aren’t actually so smart after all.
Even the monitor? That thing is just ugh.
That would be awesome! Fingers crossed. It really does seem like a situation ripe for a Jason deep-dive.
Did you see that post where the Blizz developer who fixed D3's mess (and did a presentation on it) made a bunch of key points on how to save Anthem for the developers? Not sure if they took heed. :|
Right? Reminds me of Destiny’s early strikes. I think even D1 had more to do at launch though. I’ve gotten sick to death of the repeated voice lines in strongholds, too. (“You freelancers have tools for everything.” I will never stop shaking my head at someone being impressed by A FLARE of all things in this crazy…
I’m so curious as to how Anthem became what it is, given the 6 years of development. I really tried to like it, taking the story slow despite playing early access (and optimistically dropping $100 on a year of Origin Access), and there were actually some good character moments. I could appreciate what they were trying…
I get the feeling they’ve scrapped multiple prototypes and WIPs of it. Actually who knows - I have no idea what the hell goes on at Valve these days. I imagine a typical work day for Gabe looks something like this:
So... video game loot boxes IRL, but with makeup inside? I guess it was only a matter of time.
Parrying is easier this time around, but yeah - dodging was my bread and butter as well, and here it does noooot seem to work very well against even the most basic minions. Time to relearn some things!
Honestly, I’ve lost hope that moment will ever come. Capitalism (apparently) means that if you have enough money, you can get away with pretty much anything (oh and being racist as shit helps, it seems). I’ve never been “proud to be American,” but at this point I’m straight up ashamed.
“We live in an absurdly dull dystopia.”
Ahhh this is exciting. The last one (extremely buggy as it was - I had to download a mod to help me get past a broken part of the game early on) holds a special place in my heart. Crossing all my fingers for this one to stick the landing.
Damn. I always just assumed he was pudgy. That’s fat suit done right - to suit a complex human character, and not something played as laughs.
