The sketchy part was how terrible the microtransactions were. It was the worst level of mobile-style F2P microtransactions in a PC paid early access game, and it was gross.

The really interesting thing about this (and why I’m salty about Epic and Fortnite in general) is that STW is what Fortnite was supposed to be all along, and it was a mess before the Battle Royale fluke came along and turned it into the bizarre cash cow phenomenon it’s become. I wish more articles would chronicle the…
“And I thought, wow, a cardiologist practicing in Manhattan knows about Kingdom Hearts. He told me he had a PS2 in medical school. He was probably my age. Oh god. I’m the same age as a cardiologist. He’s a cardiologist and I’m not.”
I guess the demo is a six-month old build and I think they said they tightened it up in the new version, but who knows. :\
Booted the demo and played for a little bit. So far the controls don’t feel too great on PC. Trying to aim and shoot while flying feels clunky as hell, but I imagine flight sim fans will feel at home (I am not one of those). I don’t know how I feel about the game yet - it feels rather bland, but maybe that’ll change…
Well damn, Professor Droopy.
You’re some sort of mad, self-aware genius, Tim.
Yeahh. Streaming’s not for me. I know you don’t have to be super hot to stream or anything, but I hate my face too much to do it. Be nice to get paid stupid amounts doing what you do in your free time but I just know it’s not for me.
I really need to work on it - it’s doing awful things to multiple parts of my body as well as my wallet. I’m def a lowkey alcoholic though, which makes even cutting back hard as hell. I really frikin need to though. Had a dry three months last year which felt good. Need to hit another one of those again soon.
Hard G for life.
I have Tales of Berseria from a Humble Bundle and haven’t played a JRPG since FF15. Perhaps it’s time to give the series a shot again.
Boy, if you hated this, you’re really gonna love the Sega CD choose your own adventure games of yore. Like this banned classic! https://kotaku.com/25-years-later-disgusting-night-trap-is-incredibly-tam-1797864067
Why does it feel like we’ve strangely come full circle?
I remember absolutely adoring Suikoden 5, though the voice acting was terrible. Just such an incredible story with such fun gameplay mechanics. I actually even dabbled in the NG+ a bit on that one. I imagine most games don’t hold up well now compared to our memories of them, though.
Shit, I’ll take a sugar momma any day.
My first Tales game years and years and yeeeears ago, Tales of Legendia, left a bad taste. The voice acting (there was no Japanese dialogue track) and story were all so shockingly bad I couldn’t believe it - I was laughing during one of the game’s most tragic points (partly because one of the main characters is named…
gif thread does not disappoint.
It’s a goddamn crime there hasn’t been a sequel yet. Possibly my favorite game of the PS3 generation.
As a pointless white Portlander, basically every joke made about this city ever is true: it’s a buncha fuckers being like “I’M SO PROGRESSIVE” with very little demographic diversity. It’s a lie of a city, built on some very, very problematic history. What a fuckin place.
Literally the story of my life. And yet, I know so many people that weren’t able to make that same move for one reason or another. Those narratives in fiction have always hit me in a way nothing else does. Life is not easy, and sometimes you simply have to play the hand you’re dealt - for a lot of people, that means…
Damn. End of an era indeed. I’ve been reading Kotaku since the mid-2000s, and it’s always been bittersweet to see writers come and go. In 2012, I remember I sent you a tip about a nerd-culture-inspired music piece, which you spun into a brief article on Kotaku. Your path has always oddly resembled mine, too - I lived…
