It also reads like there is a fully clothed option that most people choose not to do because I would rather tap dance naked than be emotionally vulnerable - which seems significant and maybe part of the point?

I can imagine a college freshman since high-school teaches you what the structure of a cell looks like but not how to function like an adult. By the time someone reaches upper level coursework they should have a grasp on how to handle adult problems.

Which kind of makes me think this student doing this may be a good thing. Reading between the lines, the mom sounds to be a bit of a busy body. Might be a freeing experience for her.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the “no one was ever informed of this final project or the nudity involved until last Thursday” refers only to the mother voicing the complaint.

The list of foods that can be allergenic is incredibly extensive. You might as well serve hypoallergenic gruel if you want to safeguard against all potential negative outcomes. Also, the kid with the nut allergy can simply not eat nuts. The school is already equipped with the capability to prevent cross contamination

Funny (not funny) story:

I hate to say or even think it but won’t the borderline insane anti-vaccers of the U.S. seize on this?

There’s nothing “glamorous” about mental illness, drug/alcohol addiction or the combination thereof. It makes everything, including getting out of bed to participate in, um, life a minion times harder.

Most of the problems that effect women can be traced back a system of male dominance, so appealing to men for change makes sense. Appealing to women to reduce male suicide or incarceration rates doesn’t make sense because there is no system of female dominance in government or law enforcement that has an effect on

Well you what you have to do now! Take your laptop home and ignore all your work notifications and people will be impressed at how well you’re fitting into the local culture!

“I didn’t even have time to pee today!” - Proud Americans

We can chalk this up to a larger societal problem, which is how Americans work themselves to death and sacrifice everything to appear busy. This “cult of busy” rewards people for boasting about how tired they are and why. Downtime and vacations are a dirty word in corporate America and despite how busy we are, we

Back when the general consensus was that meanie feminists forced Joss Whedon off Twitter with their witchery, I remember being really pissed off because no one ever acts like women being hateswarmed on Twitter means the Internet needs to go to its room and think about what it’s done. Hell, Cecily Strong deleted her

You nailed this. Speaking as a piece of collateral damage inflicted by an addict, I have to emphatically agree with you. There’s nothing about their choices to elevate here. There is less than nothing to idolize. I pity them, yes. I have compassion for their slow motion tragedy. But fuck idolizing that shit. Or worse

This. There is nothing entertaining about addiction. If Amy were my girl, I’d be pretty heartsick to see her suffering offered up to the Saturday night movie crowd.

Yes, thank you. I lived with an addict who was also an author. It was so painful to see him waste away and one of the most frustrating things was how he rationalized his drinking/ drugtaking because he thought couldn’t be creative sober.

thank you. im struggling with seeing my best friend glorify those who have gone down the path of addiction and never come back, because they made amazing things, as she herself goes down that path claiming that in two years her book will make her famous and it’ll all be worth it. all the while she ruins her

Thanks, that is a perspective I had not considered :)

I love Amy’s music but It always felt like she was asking us to buy into a tortured artist narrative that we all knew the ending to. One of my favorite reviews is Pitchforks review of Frank back in 2007. The opening line is

No, not really. You have to prove that she knew there was nothing in the drink and deliberately lied about it. If she thought it was drugged it doesn’t matter whether or not it was true. “I felt odd so I assumed I was drugged” is a totally legit legal defense. That is the way libel and defamation works in the US. It’s
