I would say the name that you’ve used your entire life is your real name. If you were raised being called Jim and you learn later that your legal name is Tim, you can’t tell me that you would automatically discount your entire history and think Jim is not your name. That’s plainly ridiculous.

The story says “real” name. Not “legal” name. If I grew up being called Sally my whole life and never used another name I think I’d consider Sally my “real” name. Not to mention what crazy person thinks that they have to be 100% accurate or concerned with the details when they’re sitting in a hairdressers chair…

I dunno, if my mom called me Jane my whole life I think I’d call that my real name regardless what was on my birth certificate, which is your legal name.
