Man, all that paid leave would give me a LOT of time to eat Dots and drink wine. And pizza. All the pizza.

Those were the opinions of the person I was talking with. Try reading more slowly maybe?

Okaaayyyy. A wee bit prickly, aren't we?

The US State Department:

They have developed these cat feeders that have rfid tags and they come with a collar so only the right cat can get it to open. It’s genius. And probably prohibitively expensive.

I didn’t say it was. And I lived in the neighborhood they are casually saying is unsafe in Brazil. It’s posh compared to a lot of places and similar to Oakland in a lot of ways. Staggering income inequality, racial segregation, fine during the day with muggings at night

I’ve been taken for a ride in a taxi in many countries including Brazil and my own. I have zero doubt this happens on the regular while hoards of rich people decend on a state in such crisis as Rio. And the police have been known to shake you down there as well. It’s kind of weird to hear people insisting this doesn’t

Now I do. Unfortunately I couldn’t correct my post when she informed me of that.

Either I was unclear or you misunderstood.

Well, I was in both but I lived in Salvador so in my other comment I said “I don’t know about Rio”.

That’s just... ridiculous. Lots of people get robbed. Not every person of course. But when being robbed in a neighborhood isn't a rare occurrence, that neighborhood is unsafe. High crime isn't normal - when that happens that means something is wrong. Usually systemic poverty, which should be addressed by the

I lived in Oakland for 10 years and I can say some neighborhoods are not safe to walk alone at night without suggesting that if you do, you must have been up to no good. People still go out and live there and visit friends and do normal things at night in those neighborhoods. Knowing that robbery is common I just

When all the neighborhoods are known to be unsafe after dark you’ve kind of passed the point of blaming the tourist.

Also, it seems your point is that they should have known better than to be out after dark. In major tourist areas like Copacabana, where lots of hotels, bars and restaurants are.

Vitoria and Campo Grande mostly.

Cool cause if there was a fourth I wanted to see it! :)

Have you ever been there? You’re all over this thread insisting they lied but robbery of tourists is incredibly common in Brazil. I lived there for 4 months and during that time more than half my cohort were robbed. And no, we weren't running around trying to buy drugs or hookers. The worst that could be said is that

Maybe in Rio but when I was living in Salvador 15 or so out of my cohort were robbed on their way to or from home and dinner or drinks. Usually on a Main Street, before midnight.

And this is why people don't go to the cops. Glad to see ours aren't the only ones doing it really wrong.

Is it the top 3 or 4? The article references 3 products but the first few lines say “a clear top four”.
