IIRC Metalbending works by bending the impurities in the metal, something which platinum apparently doesn't have in the Avatar setting; not sure if that's true in real life as well.

So, this just occurred to me; if Lin is now an amalgamation of Spiderman and Batman, and no longer a police officer, what will she wear?

Harmon is the show. It's his baby. And he's not the only loss, either. We lost the producers, a key writer, and I would be shocked if more writers didn't jump ship.
