I think it’s arguing that there’s the letter of the law and then the spirit of the law.  I think everyone thinks offsides is a good rule, but that it’s ok to be applied with only human judgment (as opposed to the counting of pixels).  In other words, the cure is worse than the disease.

Have you not noticed that the editorial voice of this blog is basically “look at this ridiculous thing”? The second-most recent post, as of this morning, is hockey fans punching each other. The one before that is a baseball player running into a wall. A few down from that is a post making fun of some weirdo Yankees…

Then there are the people who make self-satisfied internet comments about the tone of other internet comments that they think shouldn’t have been made.  THOSE people really have life figured out!
