Ok here’s the best I could do on my lunch hour. I pulled the 2017 team stats looking for patterns. Best I could find was a tendency for the teams with the lowest ratio of hits per run (in green) to be the highest scoring teams in the league, and the teams with the highest number of hits per run (in red) to be the…

Could you just look at the season stats of several teams and see whether there is a stronger correlation between total runs scored and # of doubles or # of home runs?  Each team would have a double/runs and HR/runs ratio, and maybe if you look at enough teams you could see which number tends to be higher?

Yeah but - hear me out - wouldn’t it be better to just hit the home run and score two runs instead of one?  Then you’ve got, like, twice the runs that you would have had...

Either way, what’s more important - extending the rally or scoring runs?  I don’t claim to be a baseball knower, but it seems to me like everyone’s goal should be to try to score runs...
